U.S. Overhauls 2027 Ryder Cup Qualifying

The PGA of America is overhauling the United States’ qualification process for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland, basing selection entirely on results from the 2027 season. The race will span 31 events, beginning with The American Express in January and ending with the BMW Championship in August; the top six eligible players will qualify automatically, while captain Jim Furyk will choose six additional players after the Tour Championship. The new system eliminates credit for the prior season’s majors and other tournaments, sharply shortening the qualifying window and emphasizing current form. It also replaces a formula tied to PGA Tour prize money with fixed points based on event strength: major winners will receive 3,000 points, the Players Championship winner 2,850, signature-event and playoff winners 2,250, and regular full-field event winners 1,500. Opposite-field events will not count, though players will earn points for their finishing positions in eligible tournaments.
