UEFA Vice President Says Challenger to Infantino Need Not Be European
UEFA is working to identify a credible challenger to FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the March 2027 election, according to Vice President Laura McAllister. She said the candidate need not be European but must be able to unite football’s confederations and advance lasting governance reforms. UEFA’s campaign follows strong opposition to Infantino’s proposal to sell up to a 20% stake in FIFA competitions to private investors, a plan that has since collapsed. McAllister said UEFA and allied confederations remain committed to changing FIFA’s governance, despite Infantino appearing to retain significant support and resistance to change.
