University of Providence to close after 2027 amid enrollment decline
The University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana, will end educational operations after the 2026–27 academic year, with its final day of instruction set for Aug. 20, 2027. The board voted unanimously to close after years of declining enrollment and financial pressure, saying efforts to cut costs, restructure academic programs, pursue new revenue and partnerships, and consider merger or acquisition options did not yield a sustainable path. The school’s long-standing financial support from Providence Health is also ending as the health system faces its own financial challenges. Until closure, the university says it will help students complete their degrees or transfer, provide academic records and support, and assist employees through the transition.
