UNL Assault Suspect Arrested in Kansas Appears in Court
Joseph Favata, 32, appeared in Lancaster County Court in connection with an alleged attempted sexual assault of a University of Nebraska-Lincoln student. Prosecutors say he grabbed the student, touched and kissed her, and threw her phone into the street when she tried to call police; she screamed, and he fled. Surveillance footage reportedly showed him driving a box truck around campus before he was arrested in Wichita, Kansas, and extradited to Lincoln. Favata faces charges of attempted first-degree sexual assault and first-degree false imprisonment, and the court appointed him a public defender. He is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 26.
