UNL Launches Search for Next Chancellor

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has launched a search for its next chancellor, appointing a 30-member advisory committee chaired by NU Executive Vice President and Provost David Jackson and hiring WittKieffer to assist. Listening sessions on Nov. 12 and 13 will invite students, faculty, staff and community members to share what they want in the university’s next leader; that input will help shape a position description expected in late December or early January. University leaders say the next chancellor should build on UNL’s work in education, research and workforce development, communicate effectively, support the campus community and strengthen ties across Nebraska. The search follows Rodney Bennett’s January resignation after controversy over budget cuts, and interim Chancellor Kathy Ankerson has expressed interest in the permanent role. NU President Jeffrey Gold expects to present a finalist to the Board of Regents in June 2027, with internal and external candidates under consideration.
