US Communities Unveil Murals Honoring Local History

Communities in Pennsylvania, California and Texas are using murals to preserve local history and reflect on their futures. White Haven unveiled a mural depicting its past on the borough office building, part of a broader renewal effort that also includes a new garden and a planned pavilion. In Berkeley, artist Hannah Pae and student interns created “Berkeley Is…” for the public library, linking Indigenous Ohlone history with the city’s political activism and inviting reflection on its future. In Dallas’ Five Mile neighborhood, residents returned to restore a mural first painted in 2017, renewing a visible tribute to the historically Black community and its roots in landownership after slavery.
