US Election Reveals Bipartisan Frustration With Israel
U.S. support for Israel is facing growing pressure across party lines, amid the war in Gaza and the joint U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. President Donald Trump has raised the possibility of ending billions of dollars in annual military aid, while criticism of Israel has grown among Democrats and some Republicans who argue the country’s actions conflict with U.S. interests. A poll cited by J Street found that many Jewish American voters believe Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as AIPAC’s spending against Israel-critical candidates, contribute to rising antisemitism; the poll’s framing does not establish whether respondents mean anti-Jewish prejudice or hostility toward Israel. Separately, Israeli President Isaac Herzog warned that Israel’s internal political rhetoric affects Jews in the diaspora and urged a less hostile, more inclusive tone as the country considers forming a new government.
