US Powwows Honor Indigenous Cultures, History
Powwows across the country are bringing Indigenous communities together to celebrate culture, history and connection. The Black Hills Powwow honored the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Little Bighorn with a dance commemorating the Lakota, Cheyenne and Arapaho victory, while Moorhead High School’s annual Indigenous Peoples Day gathering welcomed families from several tribal nations and recognized veterans. In Michigan, a powwow marked the reopening of the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s renovated Anishinaabek exhibit, developed in collaboration with the Anishinaabek community and featuring updated technology and storytelling. Round the Bend Farm also announced its third annual Wampanoag Experience Powwow, with planned demonstrations, storytelling, social dancing and Indigenous food.
