US Reports 5,182 Measles Cases, 35-Year High

The United States has recorded 5,182 measles cases across 45 states and Washington, D.C., the highest total since 1991. About 96% of cases were among people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown, and the CDC reported 562 hospitalizations and four confirmed measles-associated deaths. State officials have reported additional deaths, bringing the total cited by some reports to eight. The surge has raised concern that the country could lose its measles-free status.
