US Towns Reassess Short-Term Rental Rules
Communities are weighing how to accommodate short-term rentals while limiting pressure on housing and residents. Boulder is temporarily allowing permanent residents to rent their homes for four weeks around the Sundance Film Festival, a trial intended to provide lodging for visitors without broadly expanding the market. In Logan, property owners criticized proposed regulations and fees as added costs that could push smaller operators to sell to larger companies. Saratoga, Wyoming, faces a similar trade-off: rentals support tourism where hotel capacity is limited, but may remove scarce homes from the long-term market and worsen affordability. Highland Falls, New York, is also preparing a public workshop as officials consider possible short-term rental rules.
