Trump announces $8 billion harvest fuel relief for farmers
President Donald Trump said the $8 billion is "in support to offset diesel costs during this harvest season," announcing the Harvest Fuel Relief Program at a Kansas rally while campaigning for Sen. Roger Marshall. "Roger Marshall is the leader who fought for that to happen," Trump said. "Roger got it to happen." Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the program will deliver "critical support to farmers facing rising costs and market disruptions." One-time payments will be administered by the Farm Service Agency under Commodity Credit Corporation authority. Crop insurance is not required to participate. USDA plans to publish payment rates for Title I commodities in November, with details for other eligible crops to follow. Average diesel stands at roughly $6.32 per gallon versus $3.63 a year ago. Earlier in October Trump announced steps to increase availability of red-dyed diesel and told reporters he would not authorize a diesel export ban, saying "We were never going to do it." Payment rates and non-Title I details remain to be published.
