USS Abraham Lincoln Plans Homeport Move to Bremerton
The Navy plans to permanently move the USS Abraham Lincoln’s home port from San Diego to Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, Washington, by the end of 2026, sending the carrier to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for long-planned maintenance. The relocation follows a 322-day deployment that included operations in the Middle East and a return to San Diego in October. The Navy says the move and depot-level work will extend the carrier’s service life and restore its material and combat readiness; the change will also require roughly 5,000 sailors and family members to relocate. During the deployment, families reported concerns about onboard water quality, food rationing and crew mental health, which were attributed to the carrier’s extended time at sea without port visits for restocking and maintenance.
