UT San Antonio develops continuously learning AI chip
Researchers at the University of Texas at San Antonio are developing Genesis, a neuromorphic chip designed to help AI learn new information over time without forgetting earlier knowledge, a problem known as catastrophic forgetting. Separately, a review of local AI hardware argues that matching a computer’s memory and processing capacity to a model can be more practical than buying the most expensive graphics card. An opinion article says Pope Leo’s encyclical on human dignity and AI has prompted responses from religious and secular institutions, while warning that AI’s emphasis on optimization could undermine empathy and distort ideas about intelligence. Another article explains that AI systems rely on a broader mix of components than GPUs alone, including CPUs and the software ecosystems that connect and support them.
