UVA Marks 200 Years Since Poe Enrolled

As the 200th anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe’s 1826 enrollment at the University of Virginia approaches, visitors can get a rare look inside his former student room, preserved by the Raven Society. A new biography by Emily Ogden explores Poe’s life alongside influential readers and interpreters, including Charles Baudelaire, Julio Cortázar and Marie Bonaparte. Ogden says Poe’s enduring appeal comes from how his stories give voice to shared fears and vulnerabilities, including mortality, guilt and helplessness.
