Van Gundy doubts Heat, calls Adebayo overrated
Former Heat coach Stan Van Gundy says he is unconvinced Miami’s revamped roster will become an Eastern Conference contender in 2026-27, and expects the team could miss the conference’s top six. He argues that the shooting added around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo could weaken Miami’s defense, questions Davion Mitchell as the full-time starting point guard, and cites Antetokounmpo’s recent injury history. Van Gundy also calls Adebayo overrated offensively, despite the center’s strong season and his 83-point game in March. He praised coach Erik Spoelstra and described Andrew Wiggins as underrated, but said Miami’s roster and recent regular-season performance leave him skeptical.
