Venezuelans Protest for Machado’s Return
Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel laureate María Corina Machado returned home after more than 10 months in exile, as the country’s political transition has advanced without her participation in U.S.-backed talks with acting President Delcy Rodríguez. Machado has called for a presidential election in 2027, while opposition supporters have rallied to demand an election timetable, her return and the release of political prisoners. Her Vente Venezuela movement is also preparing to help Venezuelans abroad register to vote, with the aim of sharing the information with a reformed electoral council. No election date has been set, and reforms to electoral institutions are viewed as necessary for a fair vote.
