Vermont Advocates Report 9,000 Seeking Domestic Violence Help
Domestic violence organizations and advocates are highlighting both the scale of need and the range of support available, from emergency shelter and hotlines to legal assistance and counseling. In Medicine Hat, the women’s shelter served 748 people over the past year, including adults and children using its expanded Phoenix Safe House and second-stage housing. Nevada’s Domestic Violence Intervention program says demand is overwhelming staff, while community events during Domestic Violence Awareness Month promoted prevention and encouraged volunteer support. In India, a network of 19 organizations urged stronger prevention education, more local support centers and protection officers, improved police training, and better coordination among agencies. In Maryland, a new county grant will help provide free court advocacy and legal representation, while Vermont advocates emphasized that abuse can be emotional, verbal or digital and that confidential, round-the-clock help is available.
