The Daily Show posted “Conservative Media Rallies Behind The Cheesecake Factory After Obama Serves Up Diss | The Daily Show” to YouTube.
The channel’s description frames the segment around former President Barack Obama roasting President Donald Trump’s White House renovations, with conservative media then rushing to defend the Cheesecake Factory. Jordan Klepper handles the headlines in the run-up to the 2026 midterms. John Hodgman appears later with updates on Maine’s Senate race. The Daily Show states its audience exceeds 51 million across social media platforms. Timestamps on the upload mark MAGA’s defense of the chain at the 0:39 mark, Trump on White House interiors at 4:48, and Hodgman at 8:11.
Obama delivered the original line Saturday, Oct. 24, at a Cleveland rally for Senate candidate Sherrod Brown and gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton. The midterms stood 10 days away. Acton faces Republican Vivek Ramaswamy; Brown challenges Republican Sen. Jon Husted. CNN reported that the crowd laughed at the punchline. According to CBS News and Fox News accounts of the speech, Obama said: “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but he seems very focused on home renovations. He should be on HGTV.” He continued, “What’s up with the gold? I mean, he’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.”
Obama ticked through the ballroom project, the Rose Garden paving finished in 2025, and the new granite South Lawn helipad that received a Sept. 21 ribbon-cutting. Fox News Digital noted that the Obama Presidential Center’s projected cost has surpassed $1 billion, nearly triple its original $350 million estimate.
Trump answered at a Monday, Oct. 26, rally in Corinth, Mississippi. The Washington Post reported he spent seven minutes on the subject. “I would try and explain that to a guy like Obama, but he wouldn’t understand,” Trump said. “He doesn’t understand the White House has to be clean, pristine, beautiful. It can’t have cracks in the column.” He added: “He said, this isn’t a Cheesecake Factory. Can you believe it? Which is a very successful company. He doesn’t like successful companies.” Axios reported that Trump also posted an attack on Obama on Truth Social hours after the Cleveland remarks.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent staged a press response outside a Cheesecake Factory location in Washington, D.C. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle issued a statement to Axios defending the renovations and attacking Obama. Conservative commentators and influencers, including Laura Loomer and Scott Jennings, posted reactions on X defending the chain and criticizing Obama.
