Heartbreaking: Grandparents Speak Out After Baby Left In LA Dumpster Dies
A 4-month-old baby girl named Luna has died after a neighbor searching for recyclables discovered her inside a dumpster at the Puebla del Rio housing complex in South L.A. on Monday night. The infant was found alive in a laundry bag but was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to a local hospital. Police arrested the child's 18-year-old mother, Takaya Babers, at the scene. Laura Lacey and Herman Johnson, the baby's foster grandparents who primarily raised her, said they dropped the healthy infant off with Babers earlier that day so the child's father could visit. A devastated Lacey expressed profound grief during a tearful interview, questioning why Babers asked to see the child only to allegedly discard her. Authorities have not yet released the official cause of death.
