Parents, families barge into Portland Public Schools school board meeting to protest school closures
Hundreds and hundreds of people descended upon the Portland Public Schools school board meeting in Portland as they discuss potential school closures. The room typically holds about 300 people, but the crowd forced its way inside to hear hours of testimony from parents, students and teachers. Portland Public Schools on Monday unveiled two potential scenarios for a wave of school closures, boundary changes and program shifts that would fundamentally reshape the district, directly impacting students, teachers, staff and families at up to 42 of its 81 schools. The two scenarios will be presented to school board members Tuesday evening and are likely to be the subject of fierce debate over the next two and a half months. https://www.oregonlive.com/education/2026/10/portland-public-schools-announces-proposals-to-shutter-up-to-14-schools-see-which-schools-are-on-the-list.html • Subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=oregoniannews • Get the latest news and more at The Oregonian/OregonLive: http://www.oregonlive.com/ • Subscribe to The Oregonian/OregonLive: https://www.oregonlive.com/subscribe/ • Follow us on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@theoregonian?lang=en • Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theoregonian/ • Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theoregonian/ • Follow us on X: https://x.com/Oregonian • Subscribe to our newsletters: https://link.oregonlive.com/join/6fk/signup • Listen to our podcasts: https://www.oregonlive.com/podcasts/
