Maine Coon cats go viral for two-toned coats, extra toes and furry boots

Several viral Maine Coon cats are drawing attention for their unusually striking appearances. A black Smoke Maine Coon appears to be wearing another animal’s coat because its dark outer fur reveals a white or silver undercoat, while a fluffy black-and-white kitten has been compared to a dust bunny and is likely to grow into the breed’s famously large adult size. Another kitten, Jessie, has harmless polydactyly, with six toes on her front paws and seven on her back paws; the extra toes may improve balance and climbing but require routine grooming. A recently groomed Maine Coon also went viral for retaining fur on the lower legs, creating the appearance of fashionable boots. Maine Coons are known for their broad range of colors and patterns, including a pumpkin-spice-colored kitten named Zuzu, as well as their energetic, confident personalities.
