Volkswagen Posts €5.8 Billion Loss After Special Charges
Volkswagen reported a third-quarter net loss of about €5.82 billion, as revenue fell 6.3% and vehicle sales weakened. For the first nine months, operating profit plunged nearly 99% to €71 million, largely because of €8.7 billion in special charges, including a €6.4 billion noncash write-down tied to Porsche. Weak demand in China, intensifying competition and price pressure, U.S. tariffs, restructuring costs, and lower margins on electric vehicles also weighed on results. Volkswagen’s finance chief said the company must act quickly, while the group is pursuing further cost and capacity reductions; it nevertheless reaffirmed its 2026 outlook, including an operating return on sales of up to 1%.
