Volkswagen suspends electric Golf development amid cuts
Volkswagen has temporarily paused development of its all-electric ID. Golf as it cuts spending amid mounting financial pressure. Brand chief Thomas Schäfer said the company cannot currently afford the work, while Wolfsburg’s main plant is about €300 million short of its cost-reduction target. The pause comes as Volkswagen faces major losses and pursues broader restructuring, including proposed job cuts and plant closures, amid high costs and competition in the electric-car market. The company and its works council say the model has not been canceled and maintain that the pause need not delay its eventual launch, though no restart date has been given.
