Volkswagen weighs Chinese software for European models
Volkswagen is reportedly considering using its China Electronic Architecture, developed with Xpeng, in future mass-market Volkswagen, Skoda and Cupra models sold in Europe. The proposal could cover about three-quarters of the brands’ next-generation models and is expected to be presented to company management, though Volkswagen has not confirmed the plan. The move could streamline software development as the automaker contends with delays and challenges scaling its in-house systems. It may also affect the role of Volkswagen’s $5.8 billion partnership with Rivian, which is developing software for the company’s Western-market vehicles, but reports do not establish whether that partnership would change.
