Volvo Plans One of Sweden’s Largest Energy Parks

Volvo Group plans to build an energy park in Mariestad, Sweden, near its proposed battery cell production facility. The first phase is expected to provide about 70 MW/260 MWh of battery storage, potentially making it one of Sweden’s largest such facilities, with operations targeted for 2027. Using battery energy storage systems from Volvo Energy, the park will support regional grid stability and flexibility in an area with substantial industrial energy demand. A second track will create a commercial-scale test bed for developing, testing and demonstrating new energy solutions for Volvo, its customers and partners. The project is part of a broader industrial cluster that includes the planned battery cell plant, which is expected to begin production after 2030, and nearby powertrain operations.
