Early voting more than doubles in Monroe County as groups organize get-out-the-vote events

Get-out-the-vote efforts are taking several forms, including volunteer phone and text banking, canvassing, rallies, poll caravans and public displays urging people to vote. A progressive-organized weekend schedule calls for volunteers to help Democratic candidates and voters in close races, while Jefferson County groups held separate Democratic and Republican rallies. In Canton, local organizers are promoting a rally and caravan to the Board of Elections, along with bridge and sidewalk brigades and a honk-and-wave event. In Monroe County, the Ibero-American Action League and La Cumbre plan a walk encouraging Latino residents to vote early; organizers noted that early voting in the county began with more than twice as many ballots cast in its first two days as during the comparable period in 2022. A C-SPAN event listing also identifies a Virginia get-out-the-vote rally featuring Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Eugene Vindman.
