Voter Registration, Mail Ballot Deadlines Near Nationwide
Election officials in several counties are urging voters to meet key deadlines ahead of the Nov. 3, 2026, general election. South Dakota and San Diego County set voter-registration deadlines for Monday, Oct. 19; San Diego says late registrants can still vote in person using a provisional ballot, while missing the deadline rules out voting by mail. Los Angeles County officials likewise encourage registration by Monday for a mail ballot and advise voters to return completed ballots early or use an official drop box or vote center. In Trigg County, Kentucky, and Los Alamos County, New Mexico, Oct. 20 is the deadline to request an absentee ballot; Kentucky limits mail absentee voting to voters who meet state eligibility rules and also offers early in-person voting. Voters should check local election offices for registration requirements, ballot-return options and voting schedules.
