Colorado Voters Back Rail Tax as Localities Weigh Safety Hikes
Colorado Front Range voters were backing a 0.333% sales tax to expand planned passenger rail service, including a fourth daily trip between Denver and Fort Collins and service south to Colorado Springs and Pueblo; the measure also authorizes $580 million in bonds. Jefferson City voters approved an additional quarter-cent public safety sales tax, expected to raise about $3.6 million annually for police and fire services, with the increase taking effect in April 2027. In Longmont, voters were set to decide on a tax package combining a 0.33-percentage-point sales tax increase with a property tax levy to fund expanded police, fire and emergency services. Crawford County, Illinois, voters were also set to consider a 1% sales tax on certain purchases to help fund police, fire and ambulance services and ease pressure on property taxes.
