VW-Xpeng EV averages 267 monthly sales in China
Volkswagen’s first electric SUV developed with Xpeng for China, the ID. UNYX 08, averaged about 267 sales a month from April through August, far below the company’s target of 3,622 monthly sales. The weak launch underscores Volkswagen’s broader struggle in China, where its share of group profits has fallen from nearly half to about 10% as local brands gain ground. The SUV faces competition from similarly priced Chinese models offering more advanced technology, while Volkswagen’s limited dedicated sales network has left the vehicle less visible to buyers. Volkswagen says its Xpeng partnership has delivered a new electric vehicle architecture and will help it develop local models faster; it also says it is expanding access through selected dealerships.
