Walgreens signs pact for first India global capability centre in Chennai

Walgreens India Private Limited has signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government to establish the company’s first Indian global capability centre at DLF Downtown in Taramani, Chennai. The centre will provide technology, business, healthcare-services and operational support for Walgreens’ global operations, creating about 250 high-value jobs in its first year with expansion planned later. The facility will be part of Chennai’s emerging Old Mahabalipuram Road global capability centre corridor, as Tamil Nadu seeks to attract more multinational technology and business-services investments. State officials said the project reflects Chennai’s engineering and healthcare talent base and urged Walgreens to recruit skilled workers from smaller cities in Tamil Nadu.
