Walmart, Wing Launch Drone Delivery Across Charlotte
Walmart and Wing began drone delivery service in the Charlotte metro on Oct. 21, bringing the service to seven stores initially, with coverage across several nearby communities. Customers can order eligible groceries, household goods and other small items through Wing’s app, with some deliveries arriving in as little as 30 minutes. The autonomous drones collect packages at Walmart hubs and lower them to customers’ yards by tether; customers retrieve orders after the aircraft departs. The Charlotte launch is part of a broader effort to offer drone delivery at more than 270 Walmart stores by 2027, reaching over 10% of the U.S. population. Denver and Seattle are among the markets planned for expansion, alongside additional cities across the country.
