Wastewater discharges reported in Plymouth, North Carolina
Heavy rain from the remnants of Isaias led to several untreated-wastewater discharges in western North Carolina. Buncombe County reported about 12,000 gallons entering the French Broad River after stormwater overwhelmed pumps at a construction site; officials said the cause was corrected and the river area was checked. Hendersonville reported roughly 4,350 gallons flowing into Britton Creek because of a partial sewer-main blockage and inflow and infiltration, and state environmental officials were notified. In Brunswick County, about 9,000 gallons reached a drainage ditch that feeds Town Creek after a lift-station discharge; crews stopped the release and said they were taking steps to prevent another incident.
