Water Rate Hikes Planned, Approved Across Regions
Water customers in several U.S. communities are facing or may soon see higher rates as utilities respond to rising costs and infrastructure needs. Youngstown is finalizing a two-year water-rate increase, expected to include a double-digit hike in January, to help cover higher wholesale water costs and other expenses; the city is also considering annual sewer increases. In Kewaskum, Wisconsin, village officials authorized an application seeking a 3% water-rate increase, which would take effect no earlier than March 2027 and requires state approval. Arizona regulators approved new rates for Global Water–Santa Cruz beginning December 1, expected to add about $2.68 a month for a median household using 5,500 gallons and generate roughly $2.3 million in additional annual revenue for utility investment.
