Waymo to End Uber Partnership for Austin and Atlanta Rides in 2028
Waymo will end its partnership with Uber in Austin and Atlanta in January 2028 and take bookings for rides in those markets through its own app. Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana said the company wants a more direct relationship with riders and a more consistent experience, since customers may not know whether an Uber booking will be a robotaxi or a human-driven car. Uber said it plans to offer Waymo rides in its app for as long as the companies continue working together; Waymo declined Uber’s suggestion to add a dedicated robotaxi booking option. The move comes ahead of the deal’s scheduled expiration in May 2028.
