Waymo Plans Singapore Robotaxi Launch in 2028

Waymo announced on September 17-18, 2026, plans to launch a fully autonomous, all-electric commercial ride-hailing service in Singapore in 2028, its first Southeast Asia market. It is partnering with the Ministry of Transport and Land Transport Authority. Jaguar I-PACE vehicles will arrive in coming months, with manual testing by trained specialists in 2027 to adapt to local roads and monsoon weather. Waymo becomes Singapore's third AV operator after Grab and ComfortDelGro, following Chinese firms WeRide and Pony AI partnering with those operators last year. Waymo also plans operations in Tokyo in 2027, London, and Munich. Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana said the company will listen to the community, create high-skilled local jobs, and complement public transit. Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow said the partnership will create new transport options, capabilities, and jobs. The Land Transport Authority said it will ensure safety and regulatory requirements and will not allow AV deployment to run ahead of retraining and support for affected drivers. Waymo reported more than 20 million fully autonomous rides, over 300 million kilometers driven, and a 94% reduction in injury-causing crashes versus human drivers in its U.S. markets. Next steps are vehicle arrivals, 2027 testing, and approvals.
