Waymo Robotaxi Stops After Loaded Ghost Gun Detected
Two minors were arrested in San Francisco after Waymo detected a firearm in its driverless vehicle, stopped the car and alerted police shortly before 4 a.m. on Sept. 3. Officers conducted a high-risk stop in the Richmond District and found a loaded AR-style rifle described as a ghost gun, along with suspected marijuana and mace spray. The boy and girl, whose identities were withheld because they are juveniles, were booked at the Juvenile Justice Center on firearm-related charges, and the investigation remains active. Waymo said the vehicle was stopped because of a terms-of-service violation involving a firearm and that it cooperated with authorities. The incident follows a separate July case in which Waymo alerted police about teenagers allegedly drinking and shooting Orbeez from a vehicle.
