Eastern U.S. Expects Cooler Labor Day Weather

Much of the Northeast and Ohio Valley is experiencing a transition to cooler, drier and more comfortable early-September weather, with sunny conditions and temperatures generally in the upper 60s to low 80s. Pittsburgh will see seasonable weather through Tuesday before humidity rises and a front brings rain from Wednesday night into Thursday, followed by another cool spell. Massachusetts will have a brief warm day Friday, a cool and mostly sunny Labor Day weekend, and a return to warmer temperatures early next week; isolated showers are possible Saturday. Beachgoers along east-facing Massachusetts beaches face a high risk of dangerous rip currents through the holiday weekend and should consult lifeguards before entering the water. In Kentucky, shortening daylight is a clear sign of the approaching fall, with Lexington losing about 70 minutes of daylight during September and nights becoming longer than days later in the month. The Pacific Northwest is slowly recovering from a storm that brought heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas, but lingering showers, isolated lightning and unsettled conditions may continue through Labor Day.
