Records Since 1895 Rank Wettest Septembers in Nine States
Stacker analyzed National Centers for Environmental Information records dating to 1895 to rank the Septembers with the highest total precipitation in Virginia, Rhode Island, Utah, Oregon, New Jersey, Connecticut, Washington, South Carolina and Georgia. The rankings identify historically wet Septembers within each state rather than comparing precipitation totals across states. Each state-level entry includes the month’s total precipitation, statewide high and low temperatures, and average temperature, providing broader climate context for the rainfall records. The Washington, South Carolina and Georgia articles were published September 10, 2026, while publication dates for the other reports were not specified.
