Nor’easter Threatens Jersey Shore With Flooding

A strengthening early-season nor’easter is expected to affect coastal communities from New Jersey and Delaware through New England from Friday into Monday, bringing heavy rain, strong northeast winds, dangerous surf, beach erosion and coastal flooding. Jersey Shore communities face the greatest risks, including moderate flooding during multiple high-tide cycles, wind gusts of 45–50 mph and waves of 6–12 feet; officials are preparing for power outages, beach damage and flooded roads. Flood warnings and advisories are in effect across numerous coastal and tidal-river counties, and residents are urged to move vehicles, secure outdoor property, avoid flooded roads and monitor official alerts. Massachusetts could receive 1–3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, though major river flooding is not currently expected; a closer storm track would increase inland rainfall and flooding threats. The storm could also disrupt New York City’s Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, where rain and thousands of attendees could damage the Great Lawn.
