Tropical Storm Hanna Forms, No Land Threat

Tropical Storm Hanna formed Monday in the central subtropical Atlantic, becoming the eighth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. It was about 870 miles east-northeast of Bermuda, moving east at roughly 17 mph with maximum sustained winds near 45 mph; tropical-storm-force winds extended up to 90 miles from its center. No coastal watches or warnings were in effect, and Hanna posed no threat to land. Forecasters expected little change in strength over the next few days, with strong wind shear and dry air likely to limit development and potentially weaken the storm. The National Hurricane Center was also tracking Tropical Depression Fay in the central Atlantic; it likewise posed no threat to land and was forecast to become post-tropical.
