Nor’easter Hits Northeast as Austin and Ohio Forecasts Vary
A powerful late-September nor’easter brought heavy rain, flooding, downed trees and damaged power lines to parts of the northeastern United States. In central Ohio, rain and above-normal warmth gave way to clearing skies and a sunny, cooler weekend, followed by another chilly period early in the week before temperatures rise; an extended dry stretch was also forecast. A separate forecast called for sunny weather near 83 degrees in Austin on Saturday, followed by an overnight drop to around 51. Drought conditions were also highlighted in Europe, where duckweed overwhelmed a Belgian canal and the Doubs River area on the France-Switzerland border faced severe drying.
