Widespread Flash Flooding Hits Oklahoma
Heavy overnight and Wednesday rain caused widespread flash flooding across central and western Oklahoma, with some areas receiving up to 9 inches and Will Rogers International Airport recording more than 5 inches in one day. Floodwaters made roads impassable, caused crashes and closures, prompted a high-water rescue near Greenfield, washed out part of a road and surrounded a home in Blaine County, and flooded Oklahoma City’s Ski Island neighborhood again. At Midwest City High School, a backed-up storm drain sent water into a hallway and two classrooms were temporarily relocated; further rain remained possible. Major flooding was forecast along the Canadian River near Bridgeport, and a separate flash-flood warning covered Childress and Hall counties in Texas after several inches of rain, amid a moderate flash-flood risk across parts of Oklahoma and Texas. Residents were urged to heed alerts and avoid walking or driving through floodwater.
