Chemical leak in Toledo and gas incidents elsewhere prompt evacuations

A chemical leak from a tank at Toledo’s Sterling Pipe & Tube facility prompted an evacuation within one mile and a shelter-in-place order within three miles; the EPA identified the substance as an adhesive coating that can irritate the eyes, skin and respiratory system. Separate natural-gas leaks prompted precautionary evacuations and road closures in Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Conway, South Carolina; officials urged nearby people to shelter in place in Wake Forest, while Conway crews awaited Dominion Energy. In Napa, California, firefighters stopped a gas leak by clamping a two-inch line. At Skål Beer Hall in Seattle, a carbon dioxide leak in a walk-in cooler triggered an alarm and a hazardous-materials response; repairs allowed the business to reopen later that day. Other reported incidents included an evacuation and temporary Central Plaza closure near Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Paris, and an evacuation and road closures in Bridgewater, Tasmania, after a vehicle reportedly damaged a gas line.
