Large Fire Engulfs North Phoenix Travelodge

A two-alarm fire broke out early Oct. 23 at the Travelodge by Wyndham near 25th Avenue and Greenway Road in north Phoenix, sending heavy smoke and flames through the roof. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes and reported no injuries; the building was believed to be vacant, and nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution. The cause remains under investigation, and crews were to search the building to confirm no one was inside. It was the second fire at the hotel in recent months: a blaze in August affected more than 50 units and displaced 30 people.
