A semi-trailer carrying bananas caught fire early Friday on northbound I-5 near Tacoma’s Puyallup River Bridge, closing three right lanes and causing major commute backups toward SR 16. The driver detached the cab and was not injured. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and crews began removing the damaged trailer and remaining cargo.
