Record Rainfall Causes Severe Flooding Across Florida

Record rainfall caused severe flooding across Florida, with 34 counties under flood watches or warnings and some areas of Brevard County receiving 15 to 20 inches of rain. Palm Beach County received roughly 18 to 19 inches over three days, flooding homes and roads, closing parks and three polling places, and suspending Brightline service between West Palm Beach and Orlando. Flooding and road closures were also reported in Indian River and other counties; some schools closed, and officials warned residents to avoid dangerous floodwaters. Additional rain was forecast into Tuesday, with saturated ground raising the risk of further localized and tidal flooding, while coastal areas faced rough surf and dangerous rip currents. Rain chances were expected to ease later in the week, followed by drier conditions after a weekend cold front.
