Florida flooding forces Brevard and DeSoto school closures
Heavy rain and flooding across Florida prompted school closures and travel warnings. Brevard County schools and district offices closed Tuesday as crews inspected campuses; normal operations were expected to resume Wednesday. Some areas had received 6 to 10 inches of rain, with flooded roads reported in Palm Bay, Titusville and Satellite Beach; Florida Tech and Eastern Florida State College also curtailed operations. DeSoto County schools and offices remained closed Tuesday and Wednesday, with classes and activities canceled; officials planned to decide Wednesday whether schools could reopen Thursday. Officials urged residents to avoid flooded roads as water levels and road conditions remained a concern. Separately, intense rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, though officials reported no structural flooding, while the Four Corners region faced a second week of destructive flooding, closures and requests for federal aid.
