Wegmans Opens First Charlotte Store, Adds 450 Jobs

Wegmans opened its first Charlotte-area store on Oct. 14 in Ballantyne, after enthusiastic customers lined up ahead of the 9 a.m. opening. The 110,000-square-foot location is the chain’s fifth in North Carolina and employs about 450 people. It features the grocer’s usual departments alongside extensive prepared-food options, including sushi, pizza, sandwiches and other meals, plus specialty cheese and bakery offerings, café seating, and beer and wine. Customers can also order groceries for curbside pickup or delivery through the Wegmans app. The store enters a competitive Charlotte grocery market and adds to Ballantyne’s growth as a retail and employment hub.
