Wild Extend John Hynes After First Playoff Series Win in 11 Years

The Minnesota Wild signed head coach John Hynes to a multiyear contract extension after he led the team to its first playoff series victory in 11 years last season. Hynes, who was entering the final year of his previous deal, has gone 125-78-24 in three seasons with Minnesota and guided the club to the playoffs twice. The Wild lost to the Colorado Avalanche in the second round, but general manager Bill Guerin praised Hynes’ preparation, adjustments and leadership. Hynes, who has also coached the New Jersey Devils and Nashville Predators, has 409 career NHL victories and helped Team USA win Olympic gold as an assistant earlier this year. The extension keeps him in place as Minnesota prepares for the upcoming season and continues pursuing its first Stanley Cup.
