Wisconsin Governor Candidate Cites Zuckerberg Funds in 2020 Election Challenge
Wisconsin Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany said at a debate that concerns over private election grants from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg—called “Zuckerbucks” by critics—were among the reasons he supported efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 election result. He also cited pandemic-era absentee voting guidance in Milwaukee and Dane counties; the Zuckerberg-funded nonprofit distributed about $10 million to more than 200 Wisconsin communities to support election administration. Democrat David Crowley criticized Tiffany’s explanation and questioned whether he could be trusted to certify future results, while Tiffany pledged to certify the 2028 election regardless of the winner. Wisconsin voters later approved a constitutional amendment barring private grant money for election administration.
